Kashmiri saffron is grown exclusively in the Karewas (high plateaus) of the Kashmir Valley, primarily around Pampore. The flowers bloom for just 3 weeks each year in October-November. Each flower yields only 3 stigmas (threads), all of which must be hand-picked before sunrise to preserve quality. It takes 150,000+ flowers to produce just 1 kilogram of saffron.
Take 5-6 saffron threads and soak in 2 tablespoons of warm water or milk for 10-15 minutes. Add the saffron-infused liquid to your dishes, drinks, or face packs. Use in Biryani, Kheer, Phirni, Kehwa, golden milk, or as a skin brightening face mask.
